Article 17 of the Indian Constitution abolishes untouchability. According to the law, the practice of untouchability in any form is a punishable crime.
Article 25 gives the right to profess, practice and propagate any religion of one's choice. This right empowers members of the Scheduled Castes to enter any temple.
Article 19 (5) allowes the government to pass laws that impose reasonable restrictions in order to protect the interests of the Scheduled Tribes.
