Match the following:
I. Multipolar neuronp. Two processesII. Bipolar neuronq. Single process that splits into twoIII. Unipolarr. One axon and many dendritesIV. Pseudounipolar neurons. Found in embryonic state
I-r, II-p, III-s, IV-q
There are three types of neurons based on the number of processes they possess. Majority of the neurons in the human brain are multipolar neurons with many processes, that is many dendrites and one axon. Bipolar neurons are neurons with two processes, one axon and one dendrite. These are seen in the sensory receptors. Unipolar neurons are neurons with a single process. True unipolar neurons are seen only in the embryonic stage and are not seen in the adult brain. Instead we see pseudounipolar neurons, these are neurons with a single process that splits into two to form the dendrite and the axon.
