The Battle of Plassey took place in 1757 between Robert Clive and Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal. After the East India Company won this battle, it changed its administrative policies to extract wealth from Bengal and other parts of India. This wealth was used to invest in the factories of Britain, the first industrialised nation. Local industries in India declined, and the subcontinent was reduced to a market for British goods.
