Based on the position of centromere, there are 4 types of chromosomes-
Metacentric: Centromere is found in the middle forming two arms of equal length.
Sub-metacentric: centromere slightly away from middle forming one short and one long arm
Acrocentric: centromere is further away from the centre and closer to terminal forming one extremely short and one extremely long arm
Telocentric: terminal centromere such that it appears as having only one arm
