A type of cuboidal epithelial cells called the brush border cells lines the PCT lumen. They are so called due to the presence of microvilli on their luminal surface. The thin part is lined by simple squamous epithelium. The DCT is also lined by simple cuboidal epithelium. Simple cuboidal epithelial cells called principal cells and another group of epithelial cells called intercalated cells, however, line the collecting ducts of the nephron.
