The presence of protein in urine is called albuminuria and is diagnostic of a kidney disease, specifically of the Malpighian corpuscle, where proteins are supposed to be prevented from entering the filtrate. The kidneys will reabsorb sugar up to a certain concentration in the ultrafiltrate, beyond which sugar starts being excreted in urine. This is called glycosuria and is quite common in diabetics and is actually the characteristic diagnosis for the same. Pus cells can also be seen in urine and at high enough levels they can indicate an infection. Bile salts in urine are associated with jaundice.
