Berzelius introduced chemical symbols to represent elements in terms of alphabets. While writing the chemical symbols:
∙ The first letter of chemical symbol is always capital while the second letter is small.
∙ The symbols of the some common elements are generally the first letter of their English name. Examples: Carbon-C, Phosphorus-P
∙ For some elements, their chemical symbols are derived from their Latin names. Examples: Gold (Aurum)- Au, Silver (Argentum)- Ag and Lead (Plumbum)- Pb.
