In response to abiotic factors, organisms can be divided into:
1) Regulators: Those organisms which maintain their internal environments despite varying external conditions, e.g., Mammals (human).
2) Conformers: Those organisms which change their internal environments to match the external surrounding conditions, e.g., fish and amphibians.
3) Migrators: These organisms can move away temporarily from the stressful habitat to more favourable area and return back when the stressful period is over, e.g., migratory bird (flamingo).
4) Suspensors: These organisms reduce their metabolic activities and go into a state of dormacy in order to escape the unfavourable conditions, e.g., bacteria and fungi.
