the operands and the result always belong to the group of rational numbers.

Rational numbers are associative under multiplication, i.e we can change the order of multiplication and we still get the same result.

Rational numbers are not associative under division as we do not get the same answer when we change the order of numbers in division.

Denominator of a rational number cannot be 0.
