Solution

Following independence, India faced internal challenges such as economic, political, and social development. India attempted to achieve economic development and eliminate poverty by establishing the Planning Commission and emphasising on industrialisation. The successful conduct of elections and faith in democratic traditions made it possible for India to achieve political stability. Social development was sought to be brought about by implementing several social reforms including policies and programmes for the weaker sections of the society.
