Solution

  • Genetic engineering includes techniques to alter the nature of genetic materials to introduce these into host organisms and thus change the phenotype of the host organisms.
  • A cloning vector is a small piece of DNA, taken from a virus, a plasmid, or the cell of a higher organism, that can be stably maintained in an organism, and into which a foreign DNA fragment can be inserted for cloning purposes.
  • Direct or vectorless gene transfer: It is the process of gene transfer into the host cell without using a vector. This possible by four important methods: microinjection, electroporation, chemical mediated gene transfer, biolistic method or gene gun method.
  • rDNA refers to recombinant DNA which is made by joining gene of interest with the vector.
  • Sticky ends are created by restriction enzymes
  • Bioreactors are vessels in which raw materials are biologically converted into specific products by microbes, plants and animal cells and/or their enzymes.
