The functions of different parts of the ear are as folows:
Pinna: The visible outer part of the ear made of cartilage helps in directing the sound vibrations further into the auditory canal.
Cochlea: It is a snail like structure in the inner ear that interprets the incoming impulses and sends these signals to the brain via auditory nerve.
Meatus: The auditory meatus also known as ear canal is the passage connecting the external ear with middle ear. It contains wax producing ceruminous glands that protect the ear from bacterial and fungal infections.
Tympanic membrane: It is also known as ear drum is the membrane separating the outer ear and middle ear. This membrane receives sound vibrations and sends them to the ear ossicles for amplification.
Eustachian tube: It is a narrow tube that equalizes pressure inside the ear to match air pressure outside the body.
