Match the following parts of the lungs with their names.
1. Apex 2. Cardiac notch 3. Fissure 4. Base
The superior tapered portion of the lung is called the apex, while the wide bottom portion is called the base. The left lung is slightly smaller than the right lung, and is left with a notch that accommodates the apex of the heart. This notch in the left lung is called the cardiac notch. Deep crevices in both lungs, two on the right, and three on the left, divide the lungs into lobes. These crevices are called fissures.
