  • In a seed, plumule and radicle are small outgrowths which give rise to shoot and root of the plant respectively.
  • Cotyledons are the food reserve for the growing plant. Based on the number of cotyledons present, they can be either monocot or dicot. A dicot plant like pea has two cotyledons as shown in the image below, whereas it is just one in monocots like rice.
