The potato plant stores starch in its modified stems below the ground. In mangrove trees, roots grow above the marshy grounds so that it can breathe in the air. They are called aerial roots. In a pitcher plant, the leaf is modified into a pitcher. This helps the plant to trap insects, digests them and absorbs nutrients.
