All the credit purchases are recorded in the purchase book.

When goods purchased on credit are returned to the supplier, debit note is issued to the supplier. The debit note number is mentioned in the purchase return book.

When goods are returned by a customer who has paid the cash already at the time of sale is recorded in cash book and not sales return book.

A credit note is issued when goods are returned by a customer who purchased on credit from the business entity.
