Nadus had emerged during the Tamizhakam age and were agricultural settlements with their own chief called the Naduvazhi. Each Nadu was divided into smaller settlements called Urs and each Ur was headed by a Uralar. These urs were further subdivided into Kudis. They were the families of occupational groups engaged in agriculture and their chief was the Kudipathi.
