Chorion forms the outermost membrane around the embryo. Together with the endometrial lining of the uterus, it helps in the formation of placenta.
The amniotic cavity that forms during the gastrulation process, is covered by an extra embryonic membrane called amnion. It is found in reptiles, birds and mammals. The amniotic cavity within the amnion contains the amniotic fluid that acts as a shock absorbing cushion for the embryo.
Allantois is an extraembryonic membrane found in the case of mammals, birds and reptiles. It gets intimately associated with the chorion and contributes to the formation of blood vessels in the chorion.
The hypoblast gives rise to the primary yolk sac. It acts as a site of haematopoiesis (formation of blood cells) in early embryos.
