Robert Hooke is credited with the discovery of cell. He observed thin slices of cork under a microscope and saw honeycomb structures. He coined the term 'cell' for these small box-like structures.
Leeuwenhoek was the first person who closely observed living cells under a microscope. So, he is considered as 'Father of Microbiology'.
Schwann and Schleiden proposed that all plants and animals respectively are made up of cells.
Robert Brown observed dark spots in cells which he called nucleus.
