Solution

The correct option is D a - (iv), b - (iii), c - (ii), d - (i)
The stages of prophase I of meiosis I consists of the following steps:

Leptotene: Compaction of chromosomes.

Zygotene: Pairing of homologous chromosomes by the process of synapsis and formation of the synaptonemal complex. These synapse chromosomes are known as bivalents.

Pachytene: Appearance of recombination nodules and crossing over between the non-sister chromatids of the homologous chromosomes, leading to recombination of genetic material.

Diplotene: Dissolution of the synaptonemal complex and formation of the X-shaped chiasmata.

Diakinesis: Terminalisation of chiasmata, condensation of chromosomes and assembly of spindle microtubules.
