Solution

Hydrocarbons are compounds that are made up of only carbon and hydrogen. There are two types of hydrocarbons: saturated hydrocarbon and Unsaturated hydrocarbon

(A) Alkanes - (I) CnH2n+2

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons (carbons and hydrogens are bonded by single bonds) The general formula of an alkane is: CnH2n+2

(B) Alkenes - (V) CnH2n

Alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons (carbons are bonded by double bonds). The general formula of an alkene is CnH2n
(C) Alkynes - (III) CnH2n-2

Alkynes are unsaturated hydrocarbons (carbons are bonded by triple bond). The general formula of an alkene is CnH2n-2

(D) Methane - (II) Marsh gas

Methane (CH4) is also known as marsh gas.

(E) Ethylene - (IV) Anesthetic

Ethylene is used as an anesthetic medication.
