In a Cartesian plane, the vertical line passing through (0,0) is called the y-axis where value of x-coordinate is always zero. Any point on the y-axis other than origin can be represented as (0,y) and the vertical line will be represented as x=0.



Similarly, the horizontal line passing through (0,0) is called the x-axis where value of y-coordinate is always zero. Any point on the x-axis other than origin can be represented as (x,0) and the horizontal line will be represented as y=0..


A point is denoted as (p,q) or (x,y) where the first number p denotes the x-coordinate.


And the second number q in (p,q) denotes the y-coordinate.
