Solution

The correct option is B A- 3, B- 2, C- 4, D- 5, E- 1
The roots or parts of roots are specialized to serve adaptive purposes.
1. Tuberous roots - a portion of a root swells for food or water storage, e.g., sweet potato and Asparagus.
2. Aerating roots (also called as knee root or pneumatophores or Cypress' knee) - roots rising above water such as in some mangrove genera, e.g., Heritiera.
3. Haustorial roots - roots of parasitic plants that can absorb water and nutrients from other plants, e.g., Mistletoe (Viscum album) and dodder.
4. Prop roots - they develop only from the nodes of an upright main stem and grow downward towards the soil and fix the plant to the ground more securely. These are aerial roots, e.g., screwpine, sugar cane, bamboo and corn plants.
5. Assimilatory roots - modified adventitious roots that become green colour and perform photosynthesis are called as assimilatory roots, e.g., Taeniophyllum, Trapa, Tinospora cordifolia.
Thus, the correct option is E.
