The cell walls across different organisms vary in their compositions.
  1. Fungal cell walls are mainly composed of a polysaccharide called chitin. Chitin is a polysaccharide composed of the N-acetyl glucosamine or NAG as the repeating units which is similar to that of bacterial cells.
  2. Algal cells are similar to plant cells and are made of cellulose.
  3. The peels of fruits are made of pectin. Pectinase are used to extract juice from them in fruit juice and jam industries.
  4. Woody plants have lignin in their barks which makes these cells more rigid and non flexible.
