∙ Stones are different in size, shape and colour when compared to rice. Thus, rice adulterated with stones can be easily separated using handpicking.
∙ Drinking water contains dissolved minerals in it which can separated using distillation. In this method, the drinking water is heated until the water evaporates leaving the dissolved minerals behind. The vapours are then cooled in a condenser to obtain distilled water, which is devoid of minerals.
∙ Pulp from a fruit juice can be easily separated using a strainer. Strainer is a type of filter media. When the mixture is poured through a strainer, the pulp settles on the strainer as a residue while the juice can be collected as a filtrate. This technique is called filtration.
