Anthracite has a 95% carbon content. On burning, it leaves very little ash and gives out a large amount of heat. Bituminous has 80% carbon content. It generates some amount of smoke on burning. Lignite has a carbon content that is greater than 35%. It breaks when it is exposed to air and is also called brown coal. Peat has a carbon content of around 30%. It has low heating capacity and high percentage of moisture.
