Solution

The given equations are:
xyx+y=656x+6y=5xy
6x+6yxy=56xxy+6yxy=5
6y+6x=5
6x+6y=5...........(i)
and xyy-x=66y-6x=xy
6y-6xxy=16yxy-6xxy=1
6x-6y=1 ...........(ii)
Putting 1x=u and 1y=v, we get:
6u + 6v = 5 ..........(iii)
6u − 6v = 1 .............(iv)
On adding (iii) and (iv), we get:
12u = 6 ⇒ u=12
1x=12x=2
On substituting x = 2 in (i), we get:
62+6y=53+6y=5
6y=5-3=2
2y=6y=3
Hence, the required solution is x = 2 and y = 3.
