Solution

The correct option is B

BaSO4 precipitate will be formed.

Explanation for the correct option:

  1. Double displacement reaction: A reaction in which two ionic compounds by mutual exchange of their ions to give two other products. Generally one of the products in a double displacement reaction is insoluble, gets precipitated out.
  2. If Na2SO4(aq) in the above reaction is replaced with dilute H2SO4 (Sulphuric acid), Barium sulphate(BaSO4) and Hydrochloric acid(HCl) will be formed.
  3. Reaction can be given as: BaCl2(aq)+H2SO4(aq)BaSO4(s)+2HCl(aq)(Bariumchloride)(Sulphuricacid)(Bariumsulphate)(White)(Hydrochloricacid).
  4. Here, when Barium chloride(BaCl2) solution is added to H2SO4 a white precipitate of Barium sulphate is formed.
  5. The precipitate is insoluble in dil. Hydrochloric acid.

Explanation for the incorrect options:

  1. Option (A) is incorrect because this reaction is a double displacement reaction.
  2. Option (C) is incorrect because a white precipitate of Barium sulphate BaSO4 will form here which is insoluble in Hydrochloric acid HCl.
  3. Option (D) is incorrect because Sodium chloride NaCl will not precipitate out, but Barium sulphate will get precipitated out.

Therefore, the option (B) is correct. i.e., If Na2SO4(aq) in the above reaction is replaced with dilute H2SO4, BaSO4 precipitate will be formed.
