Solution

The correct option is C 89 sq ft
The garden is in the shape of a rectangle.
We have to calculate the area of the rectangle excluding the area of the yellow region (flower beds).

Dimensions of rectangle AKLM:
Length = 2 ft
Width = 6 ft

Area of rectangle = Length × Width
= 6 ft × 2 ft
= 12 sq ft

Dimesions of square UVWX:
Side = 5 ft

Area of a square = Side × Side
= 5 ft × 5 ft
= 25 sq ft

Now, let's determine the dimensions of rectangle ABCD.

Length = AB = AK + KB
= 2 ft + 12 ft
= 14 ft

Width = BC = 9 ft

So, the area of rectangle ABCD
= Length × Width
= 14 ft × 9 ft
= 126 sq ft

Now, we have to calculate the area of the garden excluding the flower beds.

∴ Area of the remaining portion
= Area of ABCD – Area of AKLM – Area of UVWX
= 126 sq ft – 12 sq ft – 25 sq ft
= 89 sq ft

Hence, the area of the garden after excluding the area of the flower beds is 89 sq ft.
