Max wants to tile his living room. The length and width of the living room is 9 units and 7 units, respectively. Inside the living room, he has a square study space. It has a side length of 5 units. Instead of getting this space tiled, he wants to lay a carpet. How much area needs to be tiled?

● The length of the living room = 9 units
● The width of the living room = 7 units
● Area of a rectangle = Length × Width
● Area of the living room = 9 units × 7 units
● Area of the living room = 63 sq units
● Length of each side of the square study = 5 units
● Area of square = Side × Side
● Area of the square study space = 5 units × 5 units
● Area of the study space = 25 sq units
● Total area of living room = Area of study space + Area to be tiled
● So, 63 = 25 + Area to be tiled
● Area to be tiled = 63 - 25
● Area to be tiled = 38 sq units

Hence, option D is correct.
