Given that the student got 155 marks and still he failed by 10 marks

=> The minimum pass mark = 155 + 10 = 165

Given that minimum pass mark = 33% of the total mark

We're told that the minimum passing score is 33%, so 165 is equal to 33% of the maximum marks.

In other words:

165 =( 33÷100)x

x=(165×100)÷33

x=500 =maximum marks
