Mendel conducted dihybrid cross, and postulated the Law of Independent assortment, third law of principles of inheritance. Later it is not applicable to majority of organisms, because in the chromosomes, genes or characters are many and linked with one another. Due to this linkage, chances of separation of genes is less, results the less appearance of new characters in the progeny. It might be the exception, to the law of independent assortment.
