Solution

Mendeleev laid the foundation for the Modern Periodic Table by

-classifying 63 elements in increasing order of their atomic masses.

-He arranged them into 8 groups by leaving gaps for undiscovered elements and predicting their properties.

-He made separate groups for metals and non-metals. He also created periods in which the element gradually changes from metallic to non-metallic character.

-He was also able to show that the element in the same sub-group had the same valency.

After this, scientists found that the properties are the function of their atomic number, and the table called as Modern Periodic table was formed.
Mendeleev arranged the elements in such a manner that elements having similar properties occur in the same vertical column and after fixed intervals.
So, its concept laid the foundation for the Modern Periodic table.
