Solution

The correct option is B

Independent assortment of genes

Mendelian recombinations are the recombinants that are produced in the F2 generation, in a dihybrid cross. That is if two homozygous plants with two dominant traits (AABB) and two recessive traits (aabb) respectively are crossed; the F2 generation, apart from having the two parental phenotypes will also have the recombinant characters, that is one dominant trait along with the recessive trait - (AAbb) and (Aabb) having the dominant trait A and the recessive trait b; (aaBB) and (aaBb) with the dominant trait B and recessive trait a. This is because, the alleles that determine these two characters are present on separate chromosomes that assort independently into gametes during meiosis.
