Solution

Dear student
The following are the adaptations:
1. Kangaroo rat has a ability to make use of metabolic water rather than requiring it from the environment. Vast majority of their water requirements are met from byproducts of metabolic processes and through its internal fat oxidation.
2. It also has abilty to concentrate its urine so that minimal water is used to remove excretory wastes.
3. Kangaroo rat is the only mammal which does not ingest any water and reamains only on metabolic water which it can utilize due to nasal counter current mechanism. It feeds on dry castor seeds. Sweat glands are absent.
4. Kangaroo Rat protect themselves form heat. During daytime, the temperature is very hot outside, so they stay in burrows. During night, when land cools, they come out from the burrows in search of food and water.
