Osteichthyes:

  1. Osteichthyes, sometimes known as bony fish, is a complex taxonomic category of fish with skeletons predominantly made of bone tissue.
  2. They are distinguished from the Chondrichthyes by their cartilage-based skeletons.
  3. Osteichthyes examples include Queensland lungfish and West Indian Ocean coelacanth (both Sarcopterygii), Iridescent shark, and American black sturgeon (two Actinopterygii).

Characteristics of Osteichthyes:

  1. The tail fin is monocercal.
  2. Skin is coated in either cycloid or ctenoid scales.
  3. Because these creatures emit ammonia, they are known as ammonotelic animals.
  4. They are cold-blooded creatures.
  5. They produce eggs.
