Homo sapiens neanderthalensis :
1. The fossil of Neanderthal man was first discovered in 1856 by C. Fuhirott in Germany.
2. They arose 150,000 years ago and became extinct 25,000 years ago

Characteristic features:
1. They were short less than 150 cm in height.
2. Very heavily built and strong body having curiously outward curved bones.
3. They had thick boned skulls which had depression and protruded from behind. The forehead was low and sloping.
