Dear Student,

Battle of Buxor was fought between the British east India company and the combined armies of Mir qasim, Nawab of Awadh, of Bengal and Shah Alam II. The British army was led by Hector Munro.

Causes:

i. Mir Quasim was an able and efficient ruler who wanted to free himself from the foreign control.
ii.He tried to create a strong army, check the growing public disorder and corruption which indeed was not liked by the British.
iii. He also tried to check misuse of farman issued to company's servants that allowed them to trade freely.
iv. Mir quasim tried to bring parity between the Europeans and Indain mmerchants by abolishing internal duties for the latter.
v. British did not like his independent style of functioning and defeated Mir quasim in a series of battles with the final defeat at the Battle of Buxor in 1764.

Result:

a.
The victory of the British enabled them to consolidate their hold in Bengal and Northern part of the country.
b. The company was given right to collect diwani
c. This allowed company to firmly its position, to use the revenue of Bengal to purchase silk, cotton and to sell them abroad.
