Part 1: Solubility curve

  • The graph drawn for the change of solubility of a substance against temperature, (that is with the rise or fall) is called the solubility curve
  • In the solubility curve, the solubility is plotted along Y-axis, and temperature is plotted along the X-axis.

Part 2: Applications of the solubility curve

Solubility curves are used,

  • To calculate the amount of substance that will crystallize out when a hot saturated solution is cooled to a lower temperature.
  • To calculate the solubility of a given substance at a specific temperature.
  • To compare the solubilities of different substances at the specific temperature.
