Solution
The fertility of the soil can be improved by the following two methods:
1. Use of manure instead of the fertilizers. The manure allows the soil to regenerate its nutrients. It also increases the water holding capacity of the soil. It does decrease the fertility of the soil in long-term use.
2. Planting crops like legumes so that nitrogen compounds can be made available to the soil as well as to the other plants because legume plants have symbiotically associated bacteria called Rhizobium that can fix the nitrogen. This prevents the use of urea-rich fertilizers.
