Cytoplasm:

The cytoplasm is defined as a jelly-like substance present within a cell and is located between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It occupies most of the space inside a cell. Some functions of cytoplasm are -

  1. It helps in exchanging materials between different cell organelles.
  2. It is responsible for the storage of vital chemicals.
  3. It provides shape to the cell.
  4. The breaking down of glucose takes place in the cytoplasm.
  5. The cytoplasm consists of a fluid ground substance known as cytosol that synthesizes fatty acids, nucleotides, etc.
