Part 1: Fullerene

  1. Fullerene is a crystalline allotrope of Carbon. It has a defined arrangement of atoms through it.
  2. Fullerene consists of 60 Carbons known as Buckminster fullerene.
  3. Buckminster fullerene contains 12 pentagonal faces, 20 hexagonal faces forming 60 corners.

Part 2: Uses of Fullerene:

  1. Fullerene is used as a drug to cure AIDS.
  2. Used as a catalyst in reactions.
  3. Fullerene is used as Fibre to reinforce plastics. e.g. Tennis Racket.
  4. Fullerene is used for the preparation of electric wires and semiconductors.
