  1. The female reproductive part of the plant is known as the carpel.
  2. It consists of three parts.
  3. Stigma: Sticky in nature so that the pollen grains get attached to it easily.
  4. Style: It helps in providing stigma height.
  5. Ovary: It is the part containing the ovule.
  6. On maturity the ovule becomes a seed and the ovary when matured becomes a fruit.

Functions of carpel:

  1. It helps in the dispersal of seeds.
  2. The stigma receives pollen grains.
  3. The style passes pollen grains to the ovary.
  4. The ovary contains ovules that become seeds and the ovary becomes a fruit.
