Mention some rules for the SI units.

Open in App
Solution

The rules that should be followed while using SI units are,

  1. If the unit is named after a scientist then it is written in small letters including the case. Examples are newton, watt, etc.
  2. But their symbol should start with a capital letter. e.g. N for newton, W for watt.
  3. Small letters are used to write symbols for units. For example, m for meter, kg for kilogram.
  4. The derived units which are formed by multiplication are joined with a space or centre dot. For example, the unit newton second is written as N s or N.s.
  5. The name of the units can be written in plural form, for example, 6 meters. But the symbols of units are always written in singular form, for example, 6 m.
  6. Symbols of units do not end in full stops unless they are at the end of a sentence.
