Solution

Contraceptive devices:

  1. These are inserted in the uterus by expert doctors or nurses and are known as intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD).
  2. These can be copper-releasing, hormone-releasing, or non-medicated.

Copper-T:

  1. This is a copper-releasing IUCD shaped like the alphabet T, so it is named copper-T.
  2. It releases copper ions into the uterus.
  3. The presence of copper ions decreases sperm motility and the fertilizing capacity of the sperm.
  4. The uterine conditions become unsuitable for fertilization. Thus conception can be attained.

Side effects associated with the usage of copper-T:

  1. There is a chance of slippage of the device from the uterus without the knowledge of the user.
  2. It is not a very reliable method.
