Step 1: Anything or everything which occupies space, possesses mass, and offers resistance to any stress applied
on it is called matter.

Step 2: Introduction of the matter:

Every matter is made up of particles that differ in size, shape, and nature.

These particles are so small that we cannot see them even with a high-power microscope.

Step 3:The most important characteristics of particles of matter are the following :
(a) The particles of matter attract each other.: particles of a substance have certain forces of attraction between them which keeps the
particles together.
(b) The particles of matter are very, very small: The particles differ from one matter to the other. Generally, the size of particles is very small,
but they can vary from matter to matter.
(c) The particles of matter are constantly moving: The process of diffusion and Brownian motion shows that the particles of matter are constantly
moving.
(d) The particles of matter have inter-particle spaces between them.: They have interparticle space between them.
