Solution

Dear student,

After the defeat of Napoleon by the combined European powers which includes Russia, Prussia, Britain and Austria in 1815, European governments opt for conservatism. They believed in conservative principles and traditions, preserving monarchy, church, social hierarchies, properties and the family. Most of them agreed on modernization by Napoleon which could strengthen the institutions. They thought modern army, efficient bureaucracy, dynamic economy, the abolition of feudalism and serfdom can strengthen the monarchies in Europe. These European powers met at 1815 at Vienna for settlement of Europe. The Treaty of Vienna of 1815 was formed where Austrian Chancellor Duke Metternich was the host of the Congress. It nullified most decisions taken by Napoleon. Some steps are
  • Bourbon dynasty restored to power.
  • German confederation of 39 states were not changed.
  • States were formed on boundaries of France to stop further expansion.
  • Russia was given some part of Poland and Prussia was given a part of Saxony.
