Solution

Chromosome pair:

  1. Usually there will be 46 chromosomes, i.e., 23 pairs of chromosomes in humans. Out of those 23 pairs, 22 are autosomes which are similar for both the females and males and the 23rd pair determines the sex.
  2. In females, the 23rd pair will contain two X chromosomes (XX). One X chromosome will be inherited from mother and the other X chromosome from father.
  3. In males, the 23rd pair of chromosomes will contain one X chromosome and one Y chromosome (XY). Here the X chromosome has been inherited from mother and Y chromosome from father.
