Edward Jenner:
In 1796, Edward Jenner developed the smallpox vaccination technique.
Jenner coined the term "vaccination," derived from the Latin word "vaccinia," which means "cowpox."
Jenner discovered that milkmaids who had cowpox, a mild disease, never got smallpox. Jenner then demonstrated that after being infected with cowpox, one may be immune to smallpox.
