Question

Mention the factors which create polar high pressure belts.

Open in App
Solution

The pressure at the polar region is consistently high through the year. Regarding the factors of origin of high pressure at poles, thermal factors seem to be more important than the dynamic factors. Although because of the diurnal rotation of the earth the layers of air at Poles are thinned out, the persistent low temperature makes the polar air cold and heavy. This gives rise to the high pressure in the polar region.
